Gordon backs under-fire Deila ahead of crucial game

Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon has defended manager Ronny Deila from critics, saying he would welcome advice from the Norweigan should he ever begin a career in management.

Celtic are one point clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership, but suffered a 2-1 defeat at home last weekend to Motherwell allowing second place Aberdeen the chance to overtake the Hoops this weekend, despite playing a game more.

Having failed to make in into the Champions League group stage and finishing bottom of their Europa League group, the pressure has begun to increase on Deila.

And former striker Andy Walker has also put the boot into Deila, branding the football at Parkhead as “dull and uninspiring.”

However, Gordon expected to start in goal against former side Hearts this Sunday, has leapt to the defence of his under-fire boss and praised his coaching style.

As quoted by Sky Sports, Gordon said:

There is always going to be criticism at Celtic if you don’t win any game.

But I get on with the manager, he has got a lot of good ideas and there is definitely a lot of things that if and when I go into coaching later on, I would take into it.

I am sure in the future if that comes up I will be giving him a phone to ask about a few things because there is definitely things in his style and managerial techniques that are good and that I would like to take forward myself.

He is very calm, very methodical in trying to get us to play his style and he has very good ideas in the way he sets the team up.

You are always going to get bad results for any team – the best teams in the world don’t win every game, so that is always going to happen.

But he is a very good coach with good ideas and whether we get the result or not, you can’t take that away from him. He is a very talented coach.

Aberdeen can go above Celtic with a win over Inverness which could spell even more pressure for Deila before Sunday’s game at Tynecastle against Hearts.
