Derk Boerrigter has finally been released by Celtic after agreeing to a payoff from the club to settle the remainder of his contract.
The Dutchman hasn’t taken to the field in a competitive game in 20 months and has been earning a healthy wage for training with the youth team.
Boerrigter joined Celtic from Ajax in 2013 with plenty of expectation having played in the Champions League and won two Dutch league titles.
His move to Glasgow has been a complete disaster, however, as he struggled with injuries and showed an insufficient work rate in the team.

When Ronny Deila took over, the 29-year-old was instantly thrown to the wayside and made just three appearances since the Norwegian took over – the last of those coming against Maribor in the Champions League playoff round.
In total he made 26 appearances for Celtic, scoring just once and providing two assists.
This one is one player Celtic fans won’t miss and will be glad to see him finally off the books at Paradise.
