Before kick off Charlie Mulgrew’s mindset would have been solely focussed on getting a win and leaving no doubt, but the performance didn’t anything but that.
Celtic’s defeat to Rangers in the Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden Park was the dagger in an abject season – even if a fifth consecutive league title is wrapped up in the coming weeks.
Mulgrew is out of contract in the summer and could be one of a number of people heading for the exit door at Paradise.
For now he will be hoping to end the dismal season with silverware, but he won’t be shaking off today’s feeling anytime soon.
As quoted by the Glasgow Evening Times, he said:
There’s no second chances, we didn’t do it on the day and we can only blame ourselves.
It’s up there with my lowest moments in football.

It’s done though, and we need to concentrate on the next thing now which is winning games for Celtic and winning the league.
This game will need to be put behind us, and as hard as it will be, we have to move on.
For the 33 attempts they had on goal, Celtic mustered up just two goals against the lower league side and when it went to penalties it was down to who held their nerve.
Recent hero Tom Rogic and captain Scot Brown were just two players who couldn’t, as Rangers progressed to the final where they will face Hibernian.
Ronny Deila will be under no illusion that his job is far from safe, and this result will surely be the final dagger in his tenure as Celtic manager.
Celtic’s attention will turn to the league again on Sunday when they face Ross County.
