Celtic have recalled defender Eoghan O’Connell from his loan to Cork City, bringing his second loan spell of the season to a premature end.
O’Connell moved on loan to his hometown side back in February and has played for them five times but Celtic are not happy with the groin injury he suffered and have recalled him so they can assess him themselves.
He had previously spent a spell on loan to English side Oldham Athletic but suffered an injury in September and returned to Glasgow in November.
The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international was meant to stay on loan with Cork until the end of the season in an attempt to get more game time under his belt, but that is no longer the case and Cork are not sure if Celtic will even allow his to return once he is back fit.

As reported by Colm Cuddihy from Extra Time, Cork manager said:
Eoghan went back to Glasgow earlier today after Celtic pulled the plug on his loan deal. They have recalled him and he’s their player so we have to accept the decision. They were unhappy with his groin injury and we had no call on that and it’s hard to know if we will get him back at all.
O’Connell was said to be happy playing at Cork as his father Damien and brother Andy have both previously had spells with the club, but Celtic have cut short his temporary spell at his hometown side.
