Rodgers set to become highest-paid Celtic manager ever

Brendan Rodgers looks set to become Celtic’s new manager in the summer after fresh talks with the club.

The news comes after weeks of speculation over the post, following Ronny Deila’s announcement that he was leaving the club last month.

According to the Daily Record, Rodgers will be Celtic’s and Scottish football’s highest-paid manager ever if he accepts an offer on the table from their major shareholder, Dermot Desmond.

Celtic will appoint their 17th manager in the summer, and a decision is getting closer after numerous interviews and meetings with managers.

Desmond lauded former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers yesterday, who was reportedly Celtic’s number one target after his second round of talks with Celtic in just over a week.

As quoted by the Herald Scotland, he said:

I can’t tell a lie. He is a great manager. He has proved it at Liverpool and I think that he is a worthy candidate at Celtic as all the other candidates are.

Under the guidance of Tommy Burns, Rodgers began his career in management after being forced into early retirement and was appointed as the head of youth development at Reading by the Celtic legend.

With the lure of potential Champions League football and trophies, several candidates have already put themselves in the frame to take over the reigns at Celtic this summer.

Rodgers is one of six managers to be interviewed by the Celtic hierarchy and the only other known candidate is Malky Mackay.

With an announcement now expected from the club early next week, fans will be glad to see the fiasco with different names being touted on a daily basis and begin to see the direction Celtic will be going.
