Celtic have blocked Nigeria’s attempt to call Efe Ambrose up to their squad for the Olympic Games in Brazil this summer, as per a report from Stephen McGowan of The Daily Mail.
Nigeria wanted to include the 27-year-old as one of their three overage players for the tournament, but the defending Scottish champions have denied them access to the player.
Unlike the rules for international friendlies, qualifiers or major tournaments, there is no obligation for clubs to allow their players to play in the Olympic games and Celtic have decided not to let him join up with his national team.
Celtic’s season starts very early this summer and if he was allowed to go to Nigeria’s pre-tournament training camp, he’d have missed the crucial Champions League qualifiers.
He’d have also missed the start of the league campaign when the tournament kicks off, so it’s clear to see why Brendan Rodgers was keen to keep him in Glasgow.

Reading between the lines I would say that Rodgers intends using Ambrose as his other central defender with Sviatchenko
Why is Ambrose still here? I though we were having a clear out of the dross and dead beats? Has Brendan not seen the videos yet? This worries me.
