Rodgers reveals Sinclair played on three hours sleep

Brendan Rodgers has revealed that his latest signing Scott Sinclair made his debut and scored Tynecastle on just three hours sleep.

The 27-year-old winger signed a four-year deal at Celtic from Aston Villa, 12-months after signing for the Championship side on a permanent basis.

Celtic were set to pick up just one point on the opening day of the league season when Leigh Griffiths broke down the left wing and picked out Sinclair inside the box after the Englishman made a 70-yard to meet the ball.

Rodgers spoke to the Glasgow Evening Times about Sinclair after the game and said:

It was an outstanding goal. You track the speed of his run and once he’s breaking away it’s that hunger and desire that you see from really good players to want to get up and join in.

He couldn’t have asked for any more considering he’d had just three hours sleep on Friday night to travel up and had a long day yesterday.

Sinclair linked up with his former Swansea manager Rodgers and former Manchester City team-mate Kolo Toure, who signed a one-year deal two weeks ago.

He excelled for Swansea during their promotion to the Premier League in 2010/2011 under the Carnlough man, and scored 27 goals in 50 appearances.

Since then his career has stalled and Rodgers could be the man to help get it back on track after disappointing spells at several Premier League sides.

The last four years have been really difficult. I had him when he was 16 at Chelsea. He played in a really good youth team I had there.

He went out on loan to a couple of clubs and then I brought him to Swansea where he was outstanding. That got him a move to Manchester City.

From there really his career stalled. So no one has really seen the best of him and probably forgot about his qualities.

But this was a guy who four or five years ago was scoring a hat-trick in a play-off final under big pressure in front of 90,000. He has a big talent.

He is still young, 27 years of age, physically strong, robust, can play in big games and loves the big occasion and has a lot to learn still. So I think he will be really big for us.

After scoring on his Hoops debut, Sinclair will hope make his home debut on Wednesday when Celtic face Motherwell in the last-16 of the League Cup at Paradise.
