Celtic target Paddy McNair has been signed by Premier League side Sunderland in order to get more first-team experience.
The 21-year-old will join the former United boss David Moyes – who was a target for the vacant managerial role before Celtic decided to hire Brendan Rodgers – at the Black Cats.
Having analysed his squad, Brendan Rodgers was reportedly interested in taking his fellow countryman north of the border to strengthen his squad for the upcoming season.
McNair generally played in defence under Louis van Gaal, but prefers playing a central midfield role and operated from there during the European Championships in the summer.
Sunderland have reportedly spent around £5.5 million to secure his services, despite being in the final year of his contract, along with defender David Love, who also came through the United academy.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho also analysed his squad and began cutting it down to size, deeming McNair surplus to requirements for the Old Trafford side.
Since his debut against West Ham almost two years ago he has made 27 appearances for United and also has 11 caps for his country.
Celtic have recently signed Saidy Janko and got Tyler Blackett on loan from the Premier League giants in recent times, however the latter’s time at the club went badly wrong for both parties as he made just eight appearances.
