Griffiths out of Barcelona tie through injury

Leigh Griffiths will miss Celtic’s Champions League opener against Barcelona after the results of his scan came back.

Brendan Rodgers confirmed he will miss about a week of action through injury.

Griffiths withdrew from international duty for Scotland’s World Cup qualifier against Malta with a hamstring problem he had been dealing with, but has reportedly damaged his calf muscle as well.

Having scored seven goals and provided four assists already this season, Griffiths will be a big loss to the Celtic side and Rodgers.

The Irishman confirmed that Griffiths has had a scan and will be monitored over the next 24-hours.

Last season the Scottish international scored 40 goals and was the focal point of Celtic’s attack under Ronny Deila.

Celtic will could be left with just two strikers to choose from after failing to secure a deal for another before last week’s deadline closed.

They could still secure a free agent striker to deal with the lack of depth up front, as their only two options are 20-year-old summer signing Moussa Dembele who has looked impressive and Nadir Ciftci, who is yet to convince Hoops fan that he can play to the level required to play at Paradise.

It is unclear how long he will be out of action, but the results of Thursday’s scan are likely
