Celtic will face Alloa Athletic with a place in the League Cup semi-final awaiting the winners of the tie at Paradise on Wednesday night.

Brendan Rodgers’ side will be looking to continue their unbeaten start to the domestic campaign and move one step closer to his first piece of silverware in charge of the club.

The two sides have met nine times, with Celtic winning on every occasion against the League One side, who have won all 11 games they have played this season.

Their most recent meetings in 2002 saw Celtic beat the Scottish minnows 5-0 and it will be their first game against each other at Paradise since 1982.

Based on team news below, we’ve also predicted the starting XI for the game.

Celtic

Leigh Griffiths remains out with a calf injury but will hope to be fit for this weekend and next week’s Champions League tie against Manchester City.

Jozo Simunovic is expected to make his first start since recovering from knee surgery in March.

Logan Bailly, Anthony Ralston, Dedryck Boyata, Eoghan O’Connell, Kristoffer Ajer, Gary Mackay-Steven all played for the development squad yesterday (Monday) and aren’t expected to be involved on Wednesday.

Alloa

Steven Hetherington is a fitness doubt but Jason Marr has returned to the squad.

Luke Donnelly won’t feature against his parent club, having joined Alloa on loan until the end of the year.

Former Celtic academy player Calum Waters could face the club for the first time since leaving permanently in the summer.
