Celtic Football Club have agreed to pay all employees at the club the new living wage of £8.25 after conducting a review of pay rates.
As reported by STV, Celtic’s review showed that around 100 full-time members of staff, as well as hundreds of non-permanent employees, were picking up wages which fell below the new living wage threshold.
The employees were being paid £7.85 per hour but the new rate, a 40p increase, has been given to all staff members since July.
Celtic faced severe criticism at the last AGM for not signing up to the new living wage standards, but their decision not to do so has now been reversed.
The change came after the Celtic Trust supporters group and many of the club’s shareholders called for a change of stance by the Scottish Champions.
The full-time staff members will have seen a pay increase of around £15 a week, which may not seem a lot, but over the course of a year, it equates to around £780.
