After 19 minutes the home side broke quickly after a Celtic attack broke down through Thorgan Hazard who fed Tobias Strobl and Craig Gordon rushed out to meet the midfielder and made a good save.

Scott Sinclair came closest to scoring on 23 minutes for Celtic after Monchengladbach failed to clear their lines, but his curling effort came off the inside of the post and back across goal.

Nine minutes later the hosts took the lead as Celtic left Lars Stindl unmarked in the box and he volleyed home his second goal in two games in the Champions League.

On 64 minutes Andre Hahn almost doubled the home sides lead but his shot on goal cannoned back off the right hand post.

Dembele had a chance three minutes later after a bursting run from Sinclair but his shot well saved by Yann Sommer.

After winning a penalty the youngster stepped up and slotted home his 16th goal of the season on 76 minutes.

Substitute Callum McGregor had a huge chance to win the game but put his effort wide of the target.
