Rodgers hails his side’s performance after tough draw

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has praised his team’s performance tonight after The Hoops fought back to draw 1-1 with Borussia Monchengladbach in Germany.

It may not have been three points, but Rodgers’ side showed great desire to get back in to the game after forward Moussa Dembele won a penalty in the second half and slotted it home.

Speaking to the media after the game, Rodgers said:

I thought we should have won the game. I felt we were the best team. The personality we showed in the game was outstanding.

It was a beginning for us in terms of the personality we need to play with. The competition this year was about improvement and I think we can see that.

He also commented on the performance by goalscorer Moussa Dembele:

It was a big moment for Moussa. He showed great composure.

For a 20-year-old to perform like that with his presence and quality was great. He’s a very good penalty taker. I thought he was immense tonight.

The draw still leaves Celtic bottom of Group C by two points, but they’re not down and out just yet. With Manchester City beating Barcelona 3-1 in the other group tie, Europa League football may be a realistic objective for the Hoops now.

Celtic now face Barcelona in their final home game in the Champions League later on this month.
