Rodgers wants more aggressive approach against Barcelona

Brendan Rodgers is aware that changes need to be made this time around if Celtic are to have any chance of defeating European giants Barcelona.

The Hoops are at home to the Catalan side this Wednesday in the fifth game in this year’s Champions League group stages.

Celtic’s previous meeting at the Camp Nou ended in misery for the them as they were thrashed 7-0 in their opening match of this year’s prestigious competition.

Speaking to the media in his pre-match press conference, the Irishman spoke of that loss to Barcelona, saying:

We showed them too much respect and the scoreline was bitterly disappointing at the time. There were many aspects we learnt from, like being brave, and the players have shown they have learned from that.

It was a tough game against a top-class, world-class team but I’d hope it will be a different performance from ourselves.

The gaffer also spoke about the upcoming game against Luis Enrique’s side and how he expects his team to approach the match.

He added:

We have to look to impose our style and make it as difficult as we possibly can. For us it’s about the team. It’s an opportunity for us all to play here. We want to get a victory and know it will be difficult.

We have no fear for the result. If we play our style we have an opportunity to get the result. It’s the courage to love the football and ability to want the ball. There are many variables.

We need luck and be at the top of our game and we need the goalie to make saves. You know there’s going to be waves of pressure but you have to be able to play through it.

Celtic will need to win one of their two remaining games to have any hope of progressing in Europe beyond Christmas.
