Roberts hails Brown as he reveals inspiring huddle speech

Celtic winger Patrick Roberts has spoken of teammate Scott Brown’s inspiring talk before their League Cup final clash with Aberdeen.

The Hoops were outright winners at Hampden Park on Sunday after defeating the Dons 3-0 and made history in the process by clinching their 100th major trophy in their history.

Roberts started the match and yet again demonstrated his skill and ability when coming in from the right hand side.

As quoted by the Daily Mail, the 19-year-old spoke of the Celtic captain’s team-talk by saying:

The importance of the occasion was reiterated to us before the game started. When we went into the huddle, Scott Brown spoke to us about that.

He told us we had a chance to make history by winning the 100th trophy and how much that would mean. Scott’s been through everything at Celtic. He’s been here for many years and knows exactly what it means. He has been in that position so many times and made sure we were all aware of what was at stake.

For a guy like him to speak to us with such raw passion in the huddle was lovely. It was great to hear his words before the game and it really motivated us to go out and win it.

As soon as that whistle went, we were all determined to go and show what we are capable of. We did that, we got that 100th trophy and it was a special day for everyone involved. It was very special to be part of it.

Roberts’ loan-spell at the Hoops will expire at the end of the season, with the English under-20 international then returning to Manchester City.

Brown’s talk is one indication as to how solid the current team stands as one unit rather than a group of individuals, which also shows the impact that manager Brendan Rodgers has had since being appointed last May.

Rodgers’ team are still on the hunt for a treble after clinching the League Cup, and the possibility of going the whole Premiership season unbeaten has not left fans’ heads just yet.
