Kris Commons has joined Hibernian on a four-week emergency loan which has likely signalled the end of his Celtic career after almost six years at the club.
Commons’ move to the club could be made permanent in the January transfer window when it opens next month, or he will leave The Hoops in the summer on a free transfer having not featured this season.
Brendan Rodgers’ arrival has seen the veteran slip down the pecking order and the move to the Championship side will see him link up with his former boss Neil Lennon.
Rodgers high-pressing style of play was never a strength of Commons since his arrival to the club in 2011, and operated effectively in a much different system under Lennon.
The 33-year-old is one of the highest earners at Celtic – on around £20,00 a week – and the league champions made a compromise on the wage structure to allow the midfielder to move to the Edinburgh based side.
Commons was hoping to make a return to first-team action in July against Barcelona, but that never materialised and will leave the club in the summer when his contract expires.
Under Ronny Deila Commons saw his game time become more limited, but still showed flashes of brilliance when given the opportunity.
In his 229 appearances for, he scored 91 goals and provided 72 assists and will be fondly remembered by many fans.
