The Celtic FC Foundation began their 2016 Christmas Appeal in October. The aim of the Christmas Appeal was to raise as much money as possible for those who need it most. Everybody at Celtic got behind the charity including the faithful supporters and players. If you needed a good Christmas story, this is the one for you.
The charity were blown away by the support for the Christmas Appeal after raising a staggering £220,000. This money was distributed to; local families with children, local OAPs, children’s charities, Women’s Aid charities and homeless, refugees and other vulnerable groups. The immense fundraising work done by all at The Celtic FC Foundation ensures that those with very little are able to have a lot more on Christmas Day.
The Celtic Charity Fund and The Celtic Foundation merged together to establish The Celtic FC Foundation in late 2013. They uphold and promote the charitable principles and heritage that The Celtic Football Club were initially founded by Brother Walfrid to do. The main aims of The Celtic FC Foundation are to ‘HELP‘; improve health, promote equality, encourage learning and tackle poverty.
The Celtic FC Foundation hold several events each year to raise money. In 2016, they held four events; including a sleep out under the stars at Celtic Park and their annual bucket collection. A total of £110,000 was raised from these events alone. This demonstrates the sheer determination and commitment of the charity.
In June 2015, The Celtic FC Foundation named their ambassador to be Celtic super fan, Jay Beatty. The Bhoy from Lurgan, who turned 13 yesterday, became well known by the whole Celtic family on 11 May 2014 when he was picked up by former Celtic player, Georgios Samaras and carried around the pitch in front of 52,400 supporters at Celtic Park. On the same day, fellow Lurgan man, Neil Lennon handed Jay his league winners medal. Since then, Jay has become well known in the footballing world by other football clubs and their fans. There was no better candidate to represent The Celtic FC Foundation and their slogan ‘Football For Good’.
