Brendan Rodgers has cast doubt over Tom Rogic playing the final two games of the year for Celtic but was hopeful over Leigh Griffiths’ status.
Rogic hobbled off the field of play a week ago following a challenge from Darren O’Dea and has been nursing an ankle injury every since.
Speaking to the Daily Mail about the playmaker, Rodgers said:
He won’t be available for Wednesday but we’ll look towards the weekend
If it is a game we think he can play in he will but if not there is no drama, no problem. It’s about the team and someone else can step in and become a hero.
Rodgers is already without Callum McGregor for Wednesday night’s game after he was sent off at the weekend, but was more optimistic about Griffiths after he aggravated an ongoing calf injury at the weekend.
It was precautionary. His calf is a bit tight. He’s has this a number of times. He’s not been fit enough for long periods.
The last thing I wanted to do was lose him when we have fit players available. I didn’t want to take a risk. If it was going to go it would have been on that pitch. But he is absolutely fine, scored a good goal and worked hard.
Rogic has been in stellar form this season – scoring 10 goals and providing five assists – including winning goals against Motherwell and Aberdeen this season.
The Aussie number 10 thrived under Ronny Deila last season after finally breaking into the first team, but the 24-year-old has gone a step further under new boss.
Celtic are in action again on Wednesday night at Paradise against County, before travelling across Glasgow to Ibrox to face newly promoted Rangers on New Year’s Eve.
