Celtic’s deal for Nagbe falls through

Darlington Nagbe’s proposed move to Celtic is off after talks broke down between the two clubs.

Celtic were looking to acquire Portland Timbers versatile midfielder before their trip to Dubai at the beginning of January.

In recent days Portland Timbers added to their squad suggesting they were preparing to offload Nagbe.

Reports suggested that Celtic have walked away from talks but ESPN’s Taylor Twellman suggested otherwise.

The MLS side were holding out for a fee of around £3 million, but that was much higher than he The Hoops valued Nagbe.

His versatility and suitability made him a high priority target for Rodgers and his style of play, as he can operate on either wing and can also play in an attacking midfield role.

The 26-year-old American international was extensively scouted by Celtic and was in attendance for their Champions League clash with Barcelona last month for talks over a move to the club.

Nagbe was also given a guided tour of the grounds of Paradise, however a permanent switch to the Glasgow giants now seems unlikely.

Celtic will now turn to other potential targets to strengthen their squad in the January transfer window.
