Celtic close on signature of Kouassi Eboue

Celtic are close to completing the signing of Kouassi Eboue, their first acquisition of the January transfer window.

The 19-year-old Ivorian currently plays in a defensive or central midfield role, and is set to sign for a fee close to £3 million according to Sky Sports.

Rodgers has been on the look out for an energetic defensive midfielder, and Eboue possess’ qualities suited to his high pressing style including an impressive range of passing, a high work rate and apt reading of the game to win possession and intercept the ball.

He made six appearances in the Europa League for Krasnodar and is highly rated in Russia following his move from Armenia during the summer.

Several details, including a work permit for Eboue is still to be agreed, but he looks set to become Brendan Rodgers’ first signing of the window.

Eboue has made 19 appearances for the Russian outfit in all competitions, scoring one goal and providing two assists.

The Hoops are currently 19 points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand, and are currently on a winter break and won’t play again until January 22nd against Albion Rovers.

If a deal is sealed before Celtic’s planned winter break trip to Dubai, Eboue could join the squad later this week.
