Rodgers sets his targets for 2017

Since arriving at Celtic Park eight months ago, Brendan Rodgers has had a massive impact on the Celtic squad and has set his target for the coming year.

He has bought and sold players to make his squad as strong as possible for the season. Now in the January transfer window, Rodgers has declared himself happy but not satisfied speaking to the Evening Times.

It’s been a really special six months being manager at Celtic but now I’m really looking to the coming months of 2017 and focusing on improving the overall team again and the club.

It’s just about being the best we can be. That means every day, taking the opportunity every day to be better than before, to learn to develop and to keep pushing and working hard.

We have already began our journey together but there is lots for us to do and to achieve and you only do that by working, so while it’s nice that the team is getting credit at the moment, it can very quickly change and you have to be wary of that.

The minute you stop working, it all changes so it’s important we continue with that and I have no doubt it will and we will look forward to hopefully a healthy and successful 2017.

Under Rodgers control, the Hoops have gone unbeaten domestically and it is almost certain that they will win the club’s sixth league title in a row. Rodgers has led the Bhoys to the Champions League group stages at the first time of asking, and a League Cup triumph in November.

Hopes are high at Celtic Park, as the club aim to win their fourth treble, which would be the first since Martin O’Neill won it in 2001.

Celtic have already been busy in this window and the club are waiting on the work permit of hot prospect, Kouassi Eboue before they can confirm him as their first signing.

Scott Allan is set to return to Parkhead early from his season-long loan deal at Rotherham. Kris Commons is set to return from his Hibernian emergency loan deal on January 15th, however, Neil Lennon is eager to convince the former Scotland international to see out the season with them.

Celtic closed out 2016 with a 2-1 win over city rivals, Rangers at Ibrox on Hogmanay. The Bhoys first match of 2017 comes against Albion Rovers on Sunday 22nd January, at Airdrie’s Excelsior Stadium.

Rodgers squad are currently spending their winter break in Dubai to prepare for a domestic treble charge in just over two weeks time.
