Roberts makes his intentions clear beyond the summer

Patrick Roberts has made his intentions clear beyond this summer, with his loan deal at Celtic set to expire at the end of the season.

Celtic fans were hoping the winger may consider staying, however that seems very unlikely following his latest comments.

The 19-year-old was a catalyst in Celtic’s two late goals against Albion Rover at the weekend, and will be vying for a starting role in the coming games against St Johnstone and Hearts.

As quoted by the BBC, Roberts said:

It’s been good and I’m thoroughly enjoying it. I came here to improve, to win trophies and score goals.

Hopefully at the end of the season I can take that back with me to [Manchester] City and have a good go there. It’s been a great experience and I’m thankful for that.

It’s been my first proper season playing men’s football. I did a bit at Fulham, but I was in and out, the same at Man City, so coming here, the manager before [Ronny Deila] played me a lot and Brendan’s [Rodgers] been really good with me as well.

It seems no amount of money will tempt Roberts from his decision, as he attempts to break into Pep Guardiola’s plans over the summer and into next season.

Rodgers did say several weeks ago he would be in talks with City over the winger’s future at the club, but Roberts has made his own personal intentions clear.

Roberts will likely be involved for Celtic tomorrow night against St Johnstone, after impressing at the weekend in the Scottish Cup.
