Rodgers issues update on Eboue’s progress

Brendan Rodgers has said that Kouassi Eboue will have to wait for his Hoops bow ahead of tonight’s game.

The 19-year-old Ivorian signed for Celtic this window and immediately joined up with the squad during their winter break in Dubai.

Eboue is an exciting prospect, however he has a lot of competition for a position in the starting line-up in the defensive midfield role.

Rodgers spoke to the  Evening Times and said:

He wasn’t one I was going to bring in and pitch straight into the side.

He was always going to take time to adapt to the country and fitness.

He’s not played for a while. He’s done a little training and was in Dubai with us but there were some restrictions with his work permit and stuff. But he’s done some work here. I am not putting a timeline on it right now.

We’ll see how he is. The team is doing really well but he will make it very competitive for places.

The midfielder was treated for malaria in Glasgow earlier this week and the 19-year-old was at Lennoxtown to do some light fitness work as the staff monitor his recovery.

Celtic’s game at home to St Johnstone tonight will kick-off at 7:45pm.

The Hoops aim to match the Lisbon Lions’ 50-year-old record of 26 domestic games without defeat.
