In the last week of the January transfer window, Brendan Rodgers has shown keen interest in gaining the services of Henry Onyekuru.
The youngster has been in tremendous form this season, scoring 12 goals and providing six assists, and could be closer to a move to Celtic this month.
Last week, the Hoops had a reported €1.5 million offer rejected for the 19-year-old. However, his club do not want to sell him at this stage, unless they get an offer of around €4 million according to Belgian outlet RTBF.
Multiple reports from Belgium have revealed that Onyekuru has been left out of Eupen’s clash with Standard Leige tonight, as his future at the club remains in doubt.
Onyekuru spoke about his frustration to African Football:
Eupen are acting funny on my transfer. They are frustrating me and my agent for their own interest.
They promised to let me move in January if I have a good offer, now there are good offers but they now want me to sign for their own agent before I move and they want me to sign for CSKA Moscow which I am not interested in.
This is unfair and not acceptable.
The manager of the Belgian side, Condom Auli revealed his reason for dropping the Nigerian.
He said to Belgian outlet Lavenier:
The transfer window confuses some players. Me, I need guys who are 500 per cent involved in the project of the club. When you are under contract with a club, what matters is the team.
It is clear that the 19-year-old wants a move away from Eupen in this window and it is up to Celtic to make the Belgian club an acceptable offer.
Brendan Rodgers stated that he wants to add one more player to his squad come the end of the transfer window, and it could be Onyekuru with Patrick Roberts set to return to Manchester City in the summer.
