Brendan Rodgers has called for patience as he looks to strengthen his squad, saying it’s not like Football Manager.
The Celtic manager is aiming to surpass the Lisbon Lions’ record and go 27 games without defeat later today when they host Hearts.
Rodgers still wants to strengthen his squad before Tuesday’s deadline, but insists he won’t panic buy any players to appease people as he builds a squad to compete in the Champions League.
Speaking to the Scotsman, the 43-year-old said:
It’s not Football Manager on the computer, where you just pull them out and transfer them. It’s a wee bit more than that. So if it doesn’t happen, OK. I’d want it to but if it doesn’t, we just have to wait and be patient.
It’s through no fault of the club. This window is always tough. I won’t just bring in anyone. It has to be a player who’s going to improve our squad. If that isn’t available, for whatever reason, then there’s not much you can do. I’ll just have to wait until the summer in order to do the next bit.
Henry Onyekuru has openly spoke about his desire to sign for Celtic are they launched a bid for the 19-year-old Nigerian, however his club Eupen don’t want to sell him this window.
Rodgers’ only signing this window was defensive midfielder Eboue Kouassi, who arrived from Krasandor for a free of around £2.8 million but will have to wait for his debut as he builds up his match fitness.
Celtic are in action at 1pm against Hearts today, with the chance to break a 50-year-old record set by the Lisbon Lions in front of a sell out Paradise crowd.
