Rodgers hits back at ignorant comments on Celtic

Brendan Rodgers has hit back at ignorant comments made about Celtic and Scottish football in recent days.

Former Chelsea player Jason Cundy suggested on Twitter that Stoke City were a bigger club, because they have more followers on one social media platform.

Yes, he really did that.

A simple fact check would also show Celtic have more followers across Twitter, Instagram and Facebook combined, rather than just one.

As quoted by the BBC, Rodgers said:

It’s ignorance really. The footballing world is more than the (English) Premier League. With all due respect, it’s a lack of knowledge of football.

We all love to see the Premier League and I was part of it but football is global and of course with all due respect Celtic is one of the biggest clubs in the world.

But if your eyes are only on one league then of course you tend to ignore what’s around that.

Celtic are unbeaten in domestic competition this season in 32 games and have stormed to a 27-point lead at the top of the table.

Over the years few teams have managed to go an entire league season unbeaten, never mind the entire domestic campaign, which shows just how monumental this achievement would be.

Rodgers is also chasing a first domestic treble since 2001 for the Hoops, and will look to secure a place in the Scottish Cup semi-final on Sunday.

St Mirren will travel to face Celtic, and kick-off is at 12:30pm.
