Celtic will be missing a key part of their squad next season when Patrick Roberts’ 18-month loan from Manchester City comes to an end in the summer.
The former Fulham teenager joined City for a reported £10m in the summer of 2015 but was a fringe player in their first-team squad and Celtic beat out a host of English clubs for his loan signature.
An England U20 regular, Roberts has been a tremendous addition to the Celtic squad, scoring 11 goals and contributing 13 assists in 44 appearances since arriving, but the time has come to think about replacing him despite the club holding interest in renewing his loan deal.
The Mirror understand that Celtic are interested in signing Arsenal teenager Chris Willock in the summer to help fill the void of the departing Roberts.
A versatile winger who can play on both sides, Willock made his Arsenal debut in the EFL Cup earlier this season and is regarded as one of their more promising youngsters.
Brendan Rodgers will make an attempt to bring Willock north of the border at the end of the season with the notion of playing first-team football hopefully a persuasive factor.
The success that the likes of Roberts, Moussa Dembele and Kieran Tierney have had under Rodgers is an illustration that Celtic can be a great place for young talents to develop their game which Willock may take into account.
