Armstrong receives praise after MOTM display for Scotland

Stuart Armstrong put in a Man of the Match winning display on his debut in Scotland’s dramatic 1-0 win over Slovenia at Hampden Park last night.

The midfielder was granted his first senior call-up by manager Gordon Strachan and was chosen to start in his side’s World Cup 2018 Qualifying win over Slovenia.

The Hoops talent received phenomenal praise from Strachan after the crucial victory having provided the crucial assist to Chris Martin with less than three minutes remaining.

As quoted by The Scotsman, Strachan spoke of Armstrong’s display, saying:

I have to say I thought Stuart Armstrong could have had the best Scottish debut we’ve ever seen.

I’m delighted for all the players. I thought they were all magnificent considering the pressure they were under. They can all be really proud of themselves.

A promising performance from the team saw Derby County striker Chris Martin, on loan at Fulham, net the winner just two minutes from time having come off the bench.

All six Celtic players who were called up to the squad started the game (Craig Gordon, Kieran Tierney, Scott Brown, Stuart Armstrong, James Forrest and Leigh Griffiths).

The victory for Scotland means they’re now in fourth place in Group F, just two points off of second place Slovakia.

They face England at home in their next World Cup Qualifying match in June.

All six players will now return to Celtic with Griffiths being the only concern having been forced off with a back injury.
