Roberto Mancini: I would love to manage Celtic

Roberto Mancini is one of the most respected and credible names in football management today and when he speaks, people take notice.

The Italian is currently without a job after leaving Inter Milan by mutual consent back in August and has been linked with a number of jobs since, including the potential vacancy at West Ham, while also turning down multiple offers from the Chinese Super League.

Speaking to the media, Mancini recently stated that he would love to manage Celtic one day – if they had a stronger squad.

While the Bhoys remain a cut above the rest in Scottish football, their competitiveness in Europe is fairly non-existent, especially in recent seasons. Though, Brendan Rodgers’ side did put up a decent fight in the Champions League group stages this season.

Mancini spoke about his admiration for Scottish football supporters and how Celtic would be a welcome addition to the Premier League.

“The Scottish fans are the best in the world, I love them so much. It would be nice to see Celtic and Rangers in the English Premier League, but I don’t think it will ever happen because it would also be the end of Scottish football.”

After guiding Manchester City to their first Premier League title back in 2012, Mancini is held in high regard in Britain but he’s got a desire to lead Celtic into the Champions League.

“If Celtic managed to build a team strong enough to compete regularly in the Champions League, I might decide to manage them one day.

“They have the fans and they have the history. Now they have to strive to  compete at the top level in Europe.”

While any chances of Mancini managing Celtic remain slim-to-none, hopefully Brendan’s boys can make a lasting impression amongst Europe’s elite.
