Brendan Rodgers has spoken highly of Chelsea’s teenage talent Dominic Solanke, who is a summer transfer target for Celtic.
The England U21 forward has reportedly turned down a new contract at Antonio Conte’s side, and it’s rumoured that Rodgers is keen on bringing him on board at the Hoops.
The Irishman was asked to comment on the rumours though gave little away, but he did speak highly of the strikers talent.
As quoted by Sky Sports, he said:
Nothing much other than I know Dominic well.
I took Dominic into Chelsea when he was eight years of age. I am delighted for him and the career he has had up until now as a young player, he is a fantastic talent.
But no more than that. I only speak on him because I know the player back then.
Due to the cross-border rules, Celtic would only have to pay Chelsea a development fee for the 19-year-old, similar to the deal in which Moussa Dembele was signed on last summer.
Rodgers spoke about Solanke shortly after receiving the Manager of the Month award for April, after securing the league title with the Scottish champions who won four out of their six games last month.
They now face a trip to Pittodrie on Friday night, where they will face second-place Aberdeen, and they have their unbeaten domestic run of 43 games without defeat to play for.
