Celtic’s terrific academy set up have lost their second player of the summer as Josh Kerr is set to complete a move south of the border to newly promoted Brighton, HITC has learned.

The 19-year-old defender signed for the Bhoys in July 2013 from the Hamilton youth setup and immediately rose through the ranks at Celtic Park before becoming a regular in the U20 side.

It comes just a day after Theo Archibald signed for Brentford after his contract at the club also ran out.

Kerr left Celtic on loan to spend a four-month spell with fourth-tier side East Kilbride between September and January of the 2015/16 season, but he made just one appearance whilst at the club.

After signing a three-year professional deal with Celtic upon arrival, Kerr has yet to break into the first-team at Parkhead and with his contract expiring in the summer, Celtic offered him an extension to stay at the club which appears to have been in vain.

Brighton, who have just secured promotion to the Premier League for the first time in their history, have won the race to sign Kerr in the summer and he will join up with their U23 side on England’s south coast.
