Celtic defender Kieran Tierney says he suffered a broken jaw during Celtic’s 2-1 Scottish Cup final victory over Aberdeen and Brendan Rodgers thinks the full-back is going to require surgery.
Tierney had to be taken off in the 27th minute after he was caught by a swinging arm from Aberdeen’s Jayden Stockley.
Stockley, who has a history of incidents involving his arms and elbows, was not sent off for the clash and has told reporters that it was an accident but the footage of the incident does not look good at all for him.
Speaking to the BBC after the game, Rodgers said that he expects his teenage defender to have surgery to repair the damage caused by Stockley.
He said:
I think he needs an operation. It wasn’t nice, and I’ll have to speak to the medics on that.
The surgery would rule Tierney out of Scotland’s upcoming fixtures but he will hopefully be fully fit to resume training when Celtic begin their pre-season.
