English clubs line up moves for Gary Mackay-Steven

Having completed a famous, undefeated treble, Celtic can now finally start wholeheartedly looking forward towards the 2017/18 season.

Brendan Rodgers will look to add to his squad to try and turn Celtic into a more competitive force in the Champions League next season and in order to do so, a few players will be shown the exit door.

One of those players is winger Gary Mackay-Steven, who has been very much a peripheral figure of Rodgers’ treble-winning squad this season.

The 26-year-old made just 11 appearances this past season and didn’t feature in any of the final 10 games of the campaign which saw the Bhoys lift the SPFL title and secure the Scottish Cup.

According to the Daily Record, Mackay-Steven could be on his way back south of the border as both Blackburn and Sheffield United have made their interest in signing him known.

Both clubs have made contact with the former Dundee man’s representatives over a loan move and Celtic are expected to be willing to let him leave.

Mackay-Steven spent three years in English football in his early career. First, two years with Liverpool in their academy before leaving them for Fulham in 2009 but he failed to make an impact at Craven Cottage and was released in July 2010.
