Celtic will reject any bids for Moussa Dembele

Celtic will reject any bids made for their star striker Moussa Dembele until the club’s Champions League fate is clear, according to a report in the Daily Mail.

A host of top European clubs are showing an interest in Dembele, with AC Milan the latest club to be added to the list this weekend. Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund, Sevilla and Marseille are also reportedly battling to win the 20-year-old’s signature.

However, Celtic want Dembele to lead the club through their Champions League qualifying matches this summer.

Celtic signed Dembele from Fulham last summer for just £450,000 and it is believed that the club will only listen to offers for the striker if they fail to reach the Champions League group stages, and even then, they’ll demand at least £3o million for him.

Brendan Rodgers issued a statement of intent towards the end of last season when asked about the possibility of losing Dembele in the transfer window;

Am I confident my key players will be here for the qualifiers? Yes. We will retain the ones we have and then, touch wood, be able to make the additions we want.

Dembele reinforced Rodgers’ statement just last month by saying:

I’ve got a four-year contract here so it’s just speculation. I haven’t said I’m going to leave the club. You want to play Champions League football and I’ve had the chance to do it this season. I think Celtic is the best place for me.
