Stuart Armstrong is ready to resume talks over his Celtic contract after the midfielder expressed his desire to stay on at the club.
Contract renewal talks had been placed on hold until after the domestic campaign had finished, and the 25-year-old expects discussions to reopen as pre-season training nears ahead of the Champions League qualifiers in July.
As quoted by the Daily Mail, Armstrong spoke of his eagerness of tying down a new deal at the Hoops:
That was something we talked about and decided to leave until the season was finished – then we could pick it up again. We’ll take care of that soon. You know, you can never put a time limit on these things. I’ve said that before. These things usually take care of themselves.
I think it’s the happiest I’ve been in my footballing career. And I think that is showing on the park, as well. I’m very happy, playing well, playing probably the best football of my life. So it’s all good.
Armstrong enjoyed his finest season as a professional footballer, after helping Celtic secure an historic treble whilst going unbeaten across all domestic competitions.
He scored 17 goals for the Hoops last season, having also tallied seven assists.
His sublime form didn’t go unrecognised on the international stage either, as he was granted his first ever call-up to Scotland’s senior squad by manager Gordon Strachan, where he debuted against Slovenia in a 1-0 win at Hampden Park.
