Benyu honoured to sign for Celtic

New Celtic signing Kundai Benyu has spoken about how honoured he is to be joining the club this summer.

Celtic announced on Thursday afternoon that Benyu will be joining the club when his contract with Championship side Ipswich Town expires on July 1st.

Benyu failed to agree terms on a new deal with Ipswich and – as a result – he has opted to move to Scotland with Celtic.

The midfielder has signed a four-year professional contract with the club and will slot straight into the academy set-up.

Following his arrival, Benyu has spoken of his delight at joining such a big club – moving from Championship side Ipswich to Champions League side Celtic.

Speaking to Celtic’s website, Benyu said this:

I’m absolutely delighted to be joining Celtic. It’s a massive honour to sign for the Scottish champions and one of the world’s truly great clubs.

The 18-year-old also named Brendan Rodgers as a factor in his decision:

It’s also a great opportunity for me to continue to develop as a footballer under Brendan Rodgers.

I’m looking forward to meeting up with my new Celtic team-mates. I know there’s a lot of hard work ahead of me but I am ready for this, I’m looking forward to the challenge and I can’t wait to get started.

Celtic have a pre-season training camp in Austria this summer, which is where Benyu will be meeting his new teammates for the first time.
