Celtic to reopen contract talks with Stuart Armstrong

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is ready to reopen contract talks with midfielder Stuart Armstrong, and wants the Scottish international’s future resolved in quick time, according to a report in the Daily Record.

Armstrong’s current deal is up at the end of the forthcoming season but discussions over a contract extension were put on hold towards the end of the Hoops’ Treble winning campaign last term.

Rodgers is looking to get Armstrong’s future sorted over the coming weeks and was full of praise for the midfielder who scored 16 goals in all competitions last season.

Rodgers said:

The last thing Stuart needed to worry about was talks. He’s had the Scotland game and a holiday so I’m sure they will resume over the course of the season. Stuart had a brilliant year. Contracts are always about length of time or finances but I’m confident the club and the agent will come to an agreement. He’s happy here and knows he is improving. So, let’s wait and see.

Celtic are looking to build a squad that allows them to not only compete and dominate domestically, but also become a force in Europe and keeping hold of their best players, like Armstrong, will be key for them to achieve this aim so everybody at he club will be hoping to end any uncertainty and get this deal done as as soon as possible.
