Jim McGuinness has quit his role with the Celtic academy to pursue a career in China.
According to the Independent, the former Donegal GAA manager McGuinness has left Celtic to become the assistant manager of Chinese side Beijing Sinobo Guoan.
McGuinness managed Celtic’s under-20 side last season but has opted to move to China.
The Irishman joined Celtic back in 2012, having previously managed Donegal – but he never worked with the senior set-up at Celtic Park.
He will now go and work with former Bayer Leverkusen manager Roger Schmidt in Bejing, the German boss who was close to a move to Premier League side Southampton before signing a bumper contract with the Chinese side.
McGuinness is expected to receive a considerable pay rise from the move, which was likely a big factor in his decision to move from Scotland to the Chinese league.
Celtic will shortly begin the process of finding McGuinness’ replacement.
