Aberdeen want Mackay-Steven but deal looks unlikely

Aberdeen are working on a deal to sign Gary Mackay-Steven but it looks like they are quite far away from matching Celtic’s asking price.

There has been some talk that Mackay-Steven could go out on loan to the Dons, however, with Ryan Christie already there on a temporary basis, SPFL rules prevent Aberdeen from taking another Celtic player on loan.

Mackay-Steven made just 10 appearances last season and with Celtic likely to make more additions this summer, there’s a chance he could feature even less so it could make sense for all parties involved if he was allowed to leave.

However, the reigning Scottish champions have no desperate need to sell any player and therefore, unless Aberdeen match Celtic’s asking price, it looks like a deal to take him to Pittodrie will not be completed.
