Deila offers to help Celtic prepare for Rosenborg clash

Former Celtic manager Ronny Deila has offered to give any information he’s got on the Hoops’ upcoming Champions League third qualifying round opponents Rosenborg.

Deila has experience in facing the reigning Norwegian champions given that he is now the manager of Valerenga Fotball, who sit seventh in the Eliteserien with a game in hand over those around them in the table.

And the former Hoops boss, who won two league titles and a League Cup during his time at the club, has offered to help Brendan Rodgers’ side in any way he can.

As quoted by the Daily Mail, he explained how he’d give a helping hand to either of the clubs if they contact him:

That’s no problem for me. I will also take a call from Rosenborg if they call. It is a difficult situation for me because I want Norwegian football to succeed and at the same time I want Celtic to succeed.

So of course if I can help with information to Celtic or Rosenborg I will do it. But I don’t think that is going to be a big problem for either of them.

I don’t think I am going to be the most important part of this tie, it will be the players.

Deila also gave his thoughts on how he reckons the tie will pan out, and believes his former club have a big advantage heading into the game.

Celtic are big favourites. But at the same time Rosenborg is a team with a lot of tradition and they have everything to win in this tie.

Also, they are in the middle of their season and they should be in the best shape so that is an opportunity for them. Rosenborg have done everything to gear up for this game over the months so it is an advantage for them.

But Celtic is a better team, better player-by-player and also with their experience in Europe. However, it is positive for Rosenborg that they are away in the first leg.

They will need to get a good result at Celtic Park. They have no chance if they have a bad result at Celtic Park, then the game is finished.

The Hoops were at home for their first competitive game of the season on Wednesday night, where they comfortably beat Linfield 4-0, taking the score to 6-0 on aggregate.

That win set up their next fixture with Rosenborg, with the first leg set to be played next Wednesday at Celtic Park with kick-off at 7:45pm.
