Rodgers reveals the role Griffiths will play against Rosenborg

Leigh Griffiths will be ready to be called upon by manager Brendan Rodgers if needed later on tonight.

The Hoops face Rosenborg in the second-leg of the Champions League third qualifying round, and after the goalless draw in Glasgow last week, Rodgers’ men will need to be on top form if they want to progress to the playoffs.

Striker Leigh Griffiths was originally a doubt for tonight’s game with a calf problem, but after taking part in full training yesterday for the first time since facing Linfield, he will hope be ready to be called upon in Norway.

Rodgers has certainly got a choice to make regarding who starts up top, and with Griffiths only just back from injury it’s no doubt a tough choice to make.

The Irishman was quoted by the Evening Times, discussing the Griffiths situation as well as how well Sviatchenko bodes for the crucial tie:

You are weighing up both. Does he [Griffiths] play 60 minutes and then come off? Or do you put him on to make an impact later in the game when it is stretched and there is space?

I haven’t spoken to him. I just need to know he is available. I said to both boys [Griffiths and Erik Sviatchenko] they have done well to push themselves to make themselves available. They both feel fine and ready for the team.

They are professional players. They get their money paid into the bank every month to play. So I don’t need to find out if they want to play or not. It’s the obligation. You work to play and then it’s up to the manager to gauge your fitness and then hope they can perform.

The most important thing is that both boys are ready to play a part for us at some point.
