Stuart Armstrong signs new contract at Celtic

Stuart Armstrong has officially signed a new deal with Celtic, securing his future at the club following an impressive season.

The midfielder has improved significantly under manager Brendan Rodgers and put pen to paper on a new deal that will run until the summer of 2019 which was confirmed by the club.

Numerous Premier League clubs including Everton, West Brom and Brighton  were interested in his services, however the midfielder was always set on committing his future to Celtic despite months of negotiations between club and agent.

Celtic were flying last season, and Armstrong’s fine form has earned him two Player of the Month awards and scored the equalising goal in the Scottish Cup final.

Five of Armstrong’s 17 goals came during December’s month’s hectic schedule, as did as three of his seven assists. He also earned a hat-trick of man of the match awards in the month of December.

Armstrong helped his team go 30 points clear at the top of the league table and secure a first domestic treble since 2001 following their victory over Aberdeen in two Cup finals at Hampden.

The 25-year-old also received a call up to the Scotland squad for the first time when Gordon Strachan’s side faced Slovenia in their World Cup Qualifier and provided the crucial assist to Chris Martin to win the game.
