Leigh Griffiths says he will be fit to face PSG next week

When striker Leigh Griffiths went off injured during Scotland’s 2-0 win over Malta on Monday evening, more than a few Celtic fans will have had their hearts in their mouths.

However, the striker has told the BBC that he was only taken off as a precaution and that he should be fine to face Hamilton Academical and Paris Saint-Germain.

It’s all right. It was just a precaution. I was running through on goal and I felt a wee kick to the back of my calf. The game was safe, they weren’t causing us problems and I’ve got a big month coming up for Celtic. I’ll be fine for Friday.

Celtic visit Hamilton in the Premiership on Friday and host PSG in the Champions League just a few days later and Griffiths says he’ll have a chat with Brendan Rodgers about whether or not he’ll be needed for the league match given how big the game against the French side is.

I’ll go in tomorrow and see the physios and speak to the manager and see what he wants to do. If he wants to rest me for Friday then be ready for Tuesday, happy days.

This isn’t the first time that Griffiths has been troubled by his calf and he has admitted in the past that it’s something he ha to manage so he and the medical staff should be able to put a plan in place to keep him fit over the next few weeks as he’s very much needed with Moussa Dembele still unavailable for selection.
