Brendan Rodgers heaped praise onto debutant Odsonne Edouard after the Frenchman got on the scoresheet in Celtic’s 4-1 win over Hamilton last night.
The striker was given the green light to start up top in the win at New Douglas Park, and impressed both his manager and the fans, imposing his physical style throughout the game as well as looking determined to find the net.
The Hoops gaffer was quoted by BBC Sport after the win and expressed his delight at how quickly Edouard has adapted since arriving in Glasgow, as well as commenting on his performance last night.
He said:
I’m delighted for him. All strikers want to get goals and he’s got one and he created one or two other opportunities for himself.
He received a round of applause from all the players and staff after the game. It’s a great debut from Odsonne Edouard.
It’s difficult for a lad of 19 coming in and not speaking the language. He’s left Paris, which was 30-odd degrees, and trained with us in the rain all week.
He’s fitted in very well. You can see his natural hunger to work, to press. We have given him over the course of the week how we like to play in defence and attack and he’s produced a very good performance.
The 19-year-old will spend this season on-loan at the Scottish champions, and the club will be given the option to keep him in Glasgow on a permanent deal next summer.
Fans are already raving about the striker after his debut performance, so hopefully there is plenty more to come, and could see him in action again on Tuesday against his parent club PSG.
