Jozo Simunovic signs new four-year contract
Looking to retain their top talent for the foreseeable future, Celtic are moving to tie down quintessential squad players to new contracts.
Today, the club have announced that they have signed centre-back Jozo Simunovic to a new long-term contract running until 2021.
Celtic shelled out £6.75m to bring the former Croatia U21 international in from Dinamo Zagreb back in the summer of 2015 but a severe knee injury derails Simunovic’s debut season at the club.
Under Brendan Rodgers, the 23-year-old defender has become a regular in the side following his return from injury, making 33 appearances across all competitions and scoring once as the Bhoys completed an unbeaten domestic treble.
Heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in the summer, Simunovic, who has recently been called up to the Bosnia & Herzegovina international squad, is seen as a key player at Celtic Park and the club have handed him a new four-year deal to reflect that.
Captain Scott Brown has also signed a new contract running until the end of the 2018/19 season.
