Rodgers believes Celtic can take advantage of Anderlecht

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers believes that his side can take advantage over their UEFA Champions League opponents Anderlecht after the Belgian club sacked Swiss manager Rene Weiler just nine days ago, according to a report from the Belfast Telegraph.

Rodgers remains cautious of the threat posed by Anderlecht, who lost 3-0 away to German Bundesliga Champions Bayern Munich in their group opener, but also believes that his young Celtic side can handle the pressure.

Anderlecht sit in seventh place in the Belgian league after a poor start to the season and Rodgers believes that his side can cause them problems.

He said: “We love to play at home but we are a team that enjoys playing away because the space can open up a little bit more.

“The home team sometimes have to come and try to show their supporters that they have the intent to win and, of course, that works well for us also.

“We can control the ball and be good in possession, but we are also a fast team who can counter-attack. But I am sure it makes for a good game and we will see how it turns out.”

Anderlecht have appointed their former striker Nicolas Frutos as the interim boss and the young manager has been thrust into the spotlight.

“It is always sad when a manager loses his job, so there is clearly some problems there in relation to that,” said Rodgers.

The Celtic manager is hoping that his team can bounce back from the thrashing by PSG in their group opener.
