Celtic stadium expansion plans approved by council

Scottish champions Celtic have had their stadium expansion plans, which will include the creation of an £18m hotel and museum, approved by the Glasgow City Council, according to a report in the Mirror.

Earlier in the year, the club unveiled their plans to renovate the area around Celtic Park and they have now been given the permission to go ahead with the work.

This expansion will also include the installation of a new ticket office as well as a new retail store.

There were no objections put forward against the plans and the decision notice states that building work has to be started within a period of three years.

Celtic said the development would create up to 120 jobs, provide an economic boost to the area and reduce congestion around the stadium.

The club said in a statement:

The history of the football club and its worldwide support mean that Celtic Park regularly attracts visitors outwith match days with stadium tours, the club shop and ticket office. Provision of a club museum and improved shop/ticketing facilities as proposed will greatly enhance the visitor experience and will help to sustain jobs and economic activity throughout the year.

The plan for the hotel which will be built states that it will be up to five storeys in height and will include a restaurant, cafe and bar.

The news comes following a brilliant week for the club after they defeated Anderlecht 3-0 in the UEFA Champions League.
