Bayern star ruled out of Celtic game with ligament injury

Bayern Munich will be without one of their star players when Celtic visit the Allianz Arena in the Champions League later this month.

France international Franck Ribery will join Bayern’s number one goalkeeper Manuel Neuer on the sidelines when Brendan Rodgers and his side travel to Munich, looking to capitalise on the Bundesliga outfit’s recent poor form.

The Bayern winger tore his knee ligament this weekend as his side drew 2-2 with Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga and will now be out for an estimated three months (via the Daily Record).

The Frenchman will therefore miss not only the Allianz Arena clash, but also the return fixture at Parkhead at the end of the month, which could be crucial as to whether or not Celtic qualify for the knockout stages of the competition.

Ribery has said of his injury:

I’m in a lot of pain and not doing so well. The outside ligament is probably affected, I hope it’s not something worse

Bayern are currently second in the Bundesliga but are five points adrift of leaders Borussia Dortmund — and have no permanent manager right now following the sacking of Carlo Ancelotti.
