Celtic given injury scare as Lustig misses Sweden training

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has received a major setback after defender Mikael Lustig did not participate in training while on international duty with Sweden, with the medics confirming he has a calf injury, according to a report on the Daily Record.

The full-back did not participate in the Swedish preparations for their World Cup qualifier fixtures against Luxembourg and Netherlands.

The Swedish medical team confirmed that Lustig sat on the sidelines as a precaution as he did not want to risk the injury getting worse.

The news will be tough to take for Rodgers, who just recently learnt that centre-back Jozo Simunovic could be facing a lengthy spell out after tearing his hamstring, an injury which forced the defender to withdraw from the Bosnia squad.

The Celtic manager will be worried, especially with a huge UEFA Champions League tie against German Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich approaching.

Rodgers is finding that his defensive department is being hit with injuries at a time when he needs a full strength defence to cope with the challenge of one of the best teams in the world.

Lustig has started the season very well and has been one of the standout performers for Rodgers’ side during a good start to the season.
