Former Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool and Celtic defender Kolo Toure has just added to his workload as a coach at Celtic Park by agreeing to take the assistant manager’s job with his native Ivory Coast national team, according to the Daily Record
The 36-year-old agreed to become a coach at Celtic just last month, after also agreeing a coaching role within the Ivory Coast youth setup in August this year — but his coaching career has just taken a huge leap as Marc Wilmots has persuaded him to be his assistant manager for The Elephants.
Wilmots, who is Belgium’s all time-top scorer at the World Cup, was manager of the Belgian Red Devils from 2012 to 2016 but parted ways with the Belgian FA after failing to impress with a squad jam-packed with stars, such as Chelsea’s Eden Hazard, Roma’s Radja Nainggolan and Manchester City’s Kevin de Bruyne.
The Belgian was named Ivory Coast manager back in March and has now called on Kolo Toure to be his assistant.
The Ivory Coast are top of their qualification group for World Cup 2018 with two games left to play — so Toure will be hoping to play a part in the Elephants reaching the tournament in Russia, with a view to playing a big part in coaching success into them at the tournament.
Toure played 120 times for his country, scoring seven goals between 2000 and 2015. He won the Premier League and two FA Cups with Arsenal, another Premier League medal with Manchester City and the domestic treble with Celtic, as well as being an Africa Cup of Nations winner with the Ivory Coast in 2015.
